UALR’s
Associate Dean of Students, Debra Gentry, stopped by our studio. Believe
it or not, it’s already time for college students to be moving in to their
residence hall.
Classes may not start at UALR, and many other schools,
until August 19th, but students are preparing to move this week.
While here, Debra shared some tips for helping those first year college
students get through their first year.
1. Go to Class: It sounds
simple, but you’re on your own. Keep in mind when you’re making your
schedule, if you’re not a morning person, don’t schedule a class that starts at
8 AM.
2. Get involved: The sooner you
get involved in extra-curricular activities through the campus, the more likely
you are to feel like you belong. It’s also a great way to make friends at
your new school. Also, it’s a great way to get to know the campus and
what it has to offer that you may enjoy!
3. Make sure you keep up with all the
documents you need: Again, it sounds simple, but if you lose something you need
now, or even possibly down the road, it may cause problems and slow you down in
the future.
