Keeping the Newlywed Feeling

Thanks to our relationship expert Rebecca Ward for writing this blog for us.

We thought with all of the Royal Wedding prep, she could write down some tips for keeping, or rekindling, the newlywed feeling in a marriage.

Here are Rebecca's thoughts:

What is it that newly-weds have that oldy-weds don't have? Well, for starters they generally have no children so they likely have more free time, more energy, and maybe more libido!  We usually think of newly-weds as being more romantic with eyes only for each other and being happiest when in each other's company. They have not yet competed over a television remote or complained about personal short-comings.(See above: high libido.)

So if you want to put some of that romantic pizazz back in your older relationships you might follow some of their behaviors. How about being less critical and more affectionate both in word and deed. Nothing promotes romance as quickly as kind words and affectionate pats, hugs, and kisses. And who doesn't enjoy being with someone who makes you feel good about yourself? Marital partners need to remember this and act accordingly!

You can't abandon your children but you might be able to lose them...no, no  I mean displace them for an evening or maybe even a weekend so you can have more time to be together and get rested so you'll have more energy while you're in each other's company. See above: higher libido!
Actually older marriages have great potential for recapturing early romance because many of the kinks have been worked out while newly-weds may just be locating them. And by now we've got at least two tvs so no problem with that remote.
More on that later!

Tips for Consignment Shopping

Thanks to the ladies from Peek-A-Boo Consignment for giving us these tips for consignment shopping, to share with you!
Spring is here and it is time to lighten up those closets!   Say goodbye to those boring winter clothes.  There is nothing more exciting about spring than the thought of what lies ahead - summer.  Consignment sales are a great way for families to save money on clothing, shoes, toys, car seats, strollers, maternity items and furniture.
As a seasoned consignment shopper and sale owner, I would like to offer you a few shopping tips.
If you have shopped consignment before and got home with your treasures only to find that buttons were missing, zippers were broken or the pants were one size and the top another  - try this:
ALWAYS take a good look at two piece outfits so that you can see the back and front of both pieces.  Test the zipper - look for missing buttons and ALWAYS check to see that the sizes are the same.
Stains can accidentally get missed at consignor check in. The lighting in the building is the biggest obstacle when you are checking for stains.  Take your treasures to a place when you can look at them well and go threw them again and again.
Shopping with full hands is really hard!  Instead of holding all those treasures, bring a clothes basket, a stroller or even a wagon. This will make your shopping experience so much better.
Consignment sales are a wonderful place to find great buys on toys.  The toys are a great thing to recycle but the germs are not!  Before you give those toys to your little angles to play with and put in their mouths - fill a bathtub with a 50 % bleach / 50% water mixture and let them soak over night. Great toys are left and the germs are gone.
The current economy has everyone looking for bargains.  Prices at consignment sales should be about 25% - 30% of what the cost of the item was brand new.  By using this as your guide, you should not overpay for consignment items.
Car seats are another great find at consignment sales.  They can be very expensive brand new.  All consignment sales are required to check the recall list before accepting car seats from the consignors.  We use www.carseat.org/Recalls/179NP.pdf to see if they have been recalled. On every car seat made there is a manufactured date stamped on the bottom.  A car seat that is older than 5 years, should not be resold.  Always check the date prior to purchasing a used car seat.
Volunteering at a consignment sale guarantees that you will get the very best bargains.  The best items go to the first group of pre-sale shoppers -these shoppers shop prior to the sale opening to the public.  To be one of those first shoppers, just Volunteer your time. Consignment sales offer dozens of ways to Volunteer, you can help out during the sale, bring lunch or dinner, help pass out marketing prior to the sale, assist in checking consignor's items in, help with set up or tear down of the sale.
I hope that these tips will help you with your spring consignment shopping.  Happy Shopping!  Cherie Grammer
