Wireless/Online Safety Tips

Today is “National Data Privacy Day.”

It may not sound like the most exciting day on the calendar, but it is very important in our world of “wireless” and “smart” devices.  Aaron Sadler, with the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office, stopped by to share some tips for operating in our high tech world safely.

Wireless Security
Always use anti-virus and anti-spyware software
Change the pre-set, default passwords on your wireless network
Turn off the wireless network when you know you’re not using it
Don’t just assume that public “hotspots” are secure. Other people can access and see information you send over a public wireless network

Online Security
Don’t respond to “phishing” e-mails
Be careful about sites you’re visiting for the first time
Protect your passwords and create unique ones!

Anyone with questions about any of these tips or those who think they may be victim of an online scam may contact the Attorney General’s Office
