Health Benefits of Seaweed

Thanks to Dee Dee Helbig of Ava Bella Day Spa for bringing us all things seaweed!

Benefits of Seaweed... Scientists have recently concluded that sea vegetables offer perhaps the broadest range of minerals of any food found on earth. Western cultures are only recently beginning to discover the nutritional value of sea vegetables which have remained the foundation of the Japanese diet for centuries. In fact, sea vegetables contain virtually all the nutrients found in the ocean and the very same minerals found in human blood.

Why Would Anyone Want to Eat Seaweed?

It's simple. Sea vegetables offer the broadest range of minerals of any food and are an excellent source of the B-vitamin folate, and magnesium, as well as a great source of iron, calcium, and the B-vitamins riboflavin and pantothenic acid. In addition, seaweed contains significant amounts of lignans, which are plant compounds with cancer-protective properties.

Different types of seaweed...
Wakame- acts as a diuretic- reduces bloating
Nori- richest in protein- more Omega 3 than a cup of avocado
Kumbo- a 2011 study found that this type of seaweed contains properties that  stops blood from clotting  in the blood vessels
Arame- a good amount of potassium- which helps athletes with muscle cramping

Seaweed wrap

1 cup of powdered seaweed ( you can make this yourself by taking dry seaweed and grinding it)
1/2 cup of olive oil
essential oils if you like for the smell

mix together. Apply over the entire body- preferably after exfoliating.  Wrap yourself in cellophane and put a blanket over yourself for 40 minutes. If your doing this without help- it might be easier to do sections of your body. Easiest way to remove is by taking a shower. Your body will feel wonderful!!
