Facebook Account & Privacy Settings

Many people display almost every aspects of their life on their Facebook pages, but most of us do not have a thorough understanding of the account and privacy settings there to keep their accounts safe.

Thanks to Wes Copeland of UALR for stopping by this morning to share a little Facebook Safety 101!  Here are his tips and the 5 screen shots, or images of computer screens, Wes sent us to help understand the information.

Key privacy settings that in Wes' opinion all Facebook users should be aware of, such as:


Using HTTPS to avoid your account password being stolen on a wireless network:















This is what can happen if you don't browse using "https." This is Wes "stealing" a friend's log-in information because they didn't use HTTPS.  This was with his friend's consent of course:

Automated facial recognition and tagging of uploaded photos:













How to disable current and future "social ads", which while not yet enabled, very well could be in the future and will draw from your profile to actually create advertisements for your friends.  
Picture this: your relationship status changes to Single and your friends see an ad on the side of their screen for a local singles website that features your picture.  How unsettling!
